Activities

How rough are the waters on the Carvoeiro’s Caves Boat Tour?

The tour follows the coastline, so it doesn’t venture into rough waters. However, sea conditions can vary daily as they are influenced by the weather.

What does the Carvoeiro Kayak Tour include, and are there any weight restrictions?

The activity takes place in the ocean but always remains close to the coastline. Each kayak can accommodate up to 2 travelers, with a maximum weight capacity of 200 kg (440 lbs). Your instructor will provide all the necessary instructions and guidance, as well as assist you with getting in and out of the kayak as needed. While life jackets will be provided, it is strongly recommended that participants know how to swim to fully enjoy the experience.

Guide

How many guides will there be on the trip?

Your group will have one main Guide accompanying you throughout the trip. However, the following activities will also include a secondary Guide or driver:

  • Drivers for the Lisbon Tuk-Tuk City Tour

  • Sunset Sailboat Cruise

  • Surf Class on the Estoril Coast

  • Carvoeiro's Cave Boat Tour

  • Vineyard Tour & Tasting

This ensures you’ll have expert assistance and guidance tailored to each activity.

Meals

Is the water safe to drink?

Yes, tap water in Portugal is safe to drink. While it may not have the same taste as tap water from other parts of the world, it’s perfectly fine for consumption. Many locals opt for bottled water simply because they prefer the taste.

Tipping

How much should I tip?

Tips for Guides, drivers, and restaurant staff are not included in your trip costs. While tipping is not mandatory, it is a meaningful way to show appreciation and provides supplemental income for local teams. If they have enhanced your experience, consider rewarding their efforts with a tip. Below are tipping suggestions:

  • For Guides, it is recommended to tip $10 USD per person/per day

  • For Drivers, it is recommended to tip $3-4 USD per person/per day

  • At restaurants, it is recommended to tip 10% of the total bill

Tips can be given in Euros.

Transfers

Will there be transfers between each of the activities?

Yes, depending on the group size, you’ll be transported to each activity via a private bus or private car transfer. Please note that some activities may require walking if the distance is less than approximately 25 minutes. In those instances, your Guide will accompany the group to ensure everything goes smoothly.

What is the duration of the transfer from Lisbon to the Algarve, and what type of vehicle will be used?

The journey from Lisbon to the Algarve takes approximately 3 hours without any stops. Transfers will be arranged on a private bus for your convenience.

What does public transportation look like?

Portugal has a dense and accessible public transport network that spans the entire country, providing reliable connections to major cities and international destinations. Trains, trams, buses, taxis, and funiculars in the country are clean, efficient, and user-friendly.

Is Uber or Lyft available?

Uber and Lyft are available in several cities in Portugal like Lisbon, Porto, Braga, and across the Algarve.

Travel Safety

Where can I find information on travel safety?

Check out the US Department of State's website for the most up-to-date information on safety while traveling.

To minimize the risk of pickpocketing it is recommended to be discreet: don’t flash anything of value, keep a firm hand on your camera, and carry shoulder bags slung across your body. Overall it’s a good idea to avoid badly lit areas completely at night and deserted inner-city areas by day.

Visa

Do I need a Visa?

For Visa information, visit click here. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after you return home and has two or more blank pages. Otherwise, some countries may not let you enter.
