Currency

What is the currency in Mexico?

Mexico uses the Mexican Peso for currency.

Are tips included in the price of this trip?

Tips for Guides, drivers, and restaurant staff are not included in your trip costs. While tipping is not mandatory, it is a meaningful way to show appreciation and provides supplemental income for local teams. If they have enhanced your experience, consider rewarding their efforts with a tip. Below are tipping suggestions:

  • For Guides, it is recommended to tip $3-5 USD per person/day

  • For Drivers, it is recommended to tip $2 USD per person/day

  • At restaurants, it is recommended to tip 10-20% USD of total bill

Meals

Can I drink the tap water?

We do not recommend drinking tap water in Mexico. Your Guide will ensure you always have plenty of water to drink, but please don't use the tap to fill up. We also advise avoiding ice in drinks and peeling fruit and vegetables before eating.

A great way to avoid any worry would be to purchase a reusable water bottle that has a filter straw in it!

Rules + Regulations

Is it legal to smoke tobacco in Mexico?

No. Smoking tobacco was recently banned in outdoor public places such as parks, town squares, and beaches, as well as hotels, restaurants, stadiums, shopping centers, and entertainment arenas. Smoking has already been banned in many of the aforesaid indoor spaces.

Transportation

What does public transportation look like?

There are many ways to get around Mexico. Taxis are affordable and convenient, but be careful to only hire licensed taxi drivers. Uber is available in major cities like Mexico City, but may be harder to find in smaller towns.
