Meals

Can I drink the tap water?

While it is safe to drink in most Colombian cities, it is better to avoid it to be safe and always drink treated water, which can be found at all lodging accommodations.

Money

Are tips included?

Tips for Guides, drivers, and restaurant staff are not included in your trip costs. While tipping is not mandatory, it is a meaningful way to show appreciation and provides supplemental income for local teams. If they have enhanced your experience, consider rewarding their efforts with a tip. Below are tipping suggestions:

  • For Guides, it is recommended to tip $3-$4 USD per person/day

  • For Drivers, it is recommended to tip $2 USD per person/day

  • At restaurants, it is recommended to tip 10% of the total bill

Will there be a place for me to exchange USD for local currency?

Yes! There will be places for you to exchange your cash for Colombian Pesos, and your Guide can assist you with this once you arrive.

Do businesses accept USD?

Some places will accept USD, but it's best to have Colombian Pesos if you're going to have cash. Credit and debit cards are both widely accepted if you don't have cash!

Are there ATMs in Colombia?

Yes! They are widely available in major cities like Bogota and Medellin, but they're less common in small villages.

Transportation

What does public transportation look like?

You can find taxis everywhere and they are cheap. In larger cities, taxis are metered, but smaller towns will have fixed fares. There are subways in the major cities and local buses in towns and cities.

Uber is available in major cities including Bogota, Medellin, Cali, and Cartagena. There are also other ridesharing apps like Tappsi or Cabify.
