All About Trip Guides
Updated over 6 months ago

Our Guides are the heartbeat of every unforgettable journey. They're more than just local experts; they're storytellers, cultural ambassadors, and guardians of authentic experiences. As a Trova Host, understanding how to work effectively with your Guide is key to orchestrating exceptional trips.

Guide's Roles and Responsibilities

The Guide is the authority on the ground who will handle all the logistics, troubleshooting, and coordination for your trip! Additionally, they can support you if you feel unsafe or have questions regarding your group. They serve as companions, educators, and problem-solvers for Travelers, ensuring each journey is immersive, enriching, and safe.

Leave all coordination tasks to them. They handle everything from organizing transfers to communicating the agenda and ensuring the group stays on schedule. Whether you have questions about event timing, emergency procedures, or dining arrangements, your guide is the go-to person.

Choosing the Guide

Our Operators select the Guide for your trip, based on scheduling availability, expertise, and more. While we're happy to make requests for a particular type of guide or one you've worked with before, please note that these requests are subject to availability, and we cannot guarantee fulfillment. We'll promptly reach out to the local Operator upon receiving your request and inform you closer to the trip departure if it can be accommodated.

Introducing the Guide

Please note that not all Guides will be required to join the mobile app and/or group chat, depending on the destination and trip.

You will be connected with your Guide up to 2 days before the trip through the group chat on TrovaTrip's mobile app. The timing of the Guide's introduction depends on their availability and the trip's start date, so it may vary. Additionally, it may vary if the Guide is available to provide assistance and answer questions before the trip begins. This is why we always provide the Host with the local Operator's emergency number and travelers with contact information upon their arrival.

Unfortunately, earlier introductions to Guides are not possible because they may be engaged with other trips and need to focus on providing their full attention to their current group, just as they will for your trip. We appreciate your understanding and respect for the Guide's schedule.

On-Trip Support

Foster a collaborative relationship with your guide during the trip. Communicate openly, address any issues promptly, and provide support as needed to ensure smooth operations. Empower your guide to take the lead in sharing cultural insights, and facilitating meaningful interactions with your Travelers. Facilitate opportunities for travelers to engage with the guide, ask questions, and immerse themselves in authentic cultural exchanges and hands-on experiences.

Emergencies

In case of an emergency, contact local authorities if necessary. Otherwise, notify your guide or call the Operator's emergency number, which will be provided to you. Our guides are trained in crisis management to prioritize everyone's safety.

Tipping

Ensure you have tipping guidelines specific to the destination readily available. Tipping is not included in the trip cost and is at the discretion of both the Travelers and yourself.

While not obligatory, tips are highly valued. If the local teams have contributed to enhancing the experience, it's encouraged to show appreciation through tipping.

The Guide is not the sole individual who may require tipping. There could be additional personnel such as drivers, supplementary guides, etc. Seek guidance from your Guide on how to appropriately tip these other members of the trip if necessary.

Consider organizing tipping collectively, such as initiating a discussion with the group and potentially collecting all tips together to present to the guide.
